We had a great time and the boys did well. They ended up having the #1 seed on Saturday. Then is STORMED Saturday night and the games were delayed several times on Sunday. They finally deemed the fields unplayable and awarded winners by seeding so we came in 1st place! We went Friday night so the kids could get a little swimming in and on Sunday they weren't too sad they couldn't play b/c they were able to swim more! The hotel we stayed at had a VERY LOUD indoor pool. Imagine eleven 9 year olds swimming and screaming in a room the echos! I had to step out at some points to make sure my hearing wasn't permanently damaged. Of course the Tornados siblings had fun too. I just love baseball time!

Justin making me very nervous!

Some of the Tornado girls

Justin's getting ready to bat

on third base...

Justin doing what I just LOVE to see him do...be a catcher!

The Friday we left for Gulfport the kids had field day at their school. It's a big hit with the kids. It's a day of games and races like 50 yd. dash, sack race, tug of war, etc. They had a great time.

Haley doing the sack race...

Justin about to do the sack race...

Tug of war...Justin was one of the anchors!

Bean bag toss...this was more Haley's style! They came out so cute! They are doing one dance to the song Rice, Rice Baby by Weird Al. It's a spoof on Ice, Ice Baby. Words cannot describe how cute they are dancing. Here are a couple of Haley's pictures. I know I'm very biased but isn't she so cute!

The photographer was Megan Dixon here in Central. She did an outstanding job. Her website is http://www.mbportraits.com/ if you want to check it out. I plan on getting some family pictures made this summer and will be calling her.

This past weekend we didn't have ballgames so we made a complete family fun filled weekend! Michael has been promising the kids we would take them to The Melting Pot for dessert one night. We have been eating out or quick suppers so much I didn't really want to go out. We ended up going to Applebee's for supper because I wanted to eat somewhat healthy and they have a menu for Weight Watchers. The best part was the kids could substitute steamed broccoli for french fries. Now, before you think I'm some horrible mom b/c I made my kids eat broccoli please note that they both LOVE broccoli so I'm not such a prude! We then headed to the bowling alley and bowled a couple of games then topped the night off at The Melting Pot. My kids were in heaven! They loved dipping all the goodies in the chocolate. We got the chocolate with the peanut butter melted in it. OMG! I enjoyed it as much as the kids.

This weekend Justin's team is in a tournament at the new Cypress Mounds ballpark in Baton Rouge. It's long but fun to read. Although I'm not sure how exciting mine will be!

How many times a week do you cook and eat out? I love to cook but this time of the year is so busy for us because of baseball and especially this year because Haley is playing too along with having dance once a week. So I would love to report that I cook every night that just isn't true. We eat lots of sandwiches or quickie suppers. The frozen boneless/skinless chicken breasts and thighs are wonderful. When I do cook I try to make extra and freeze it. That way we can maybe have a hot meal mixed in with sandwiches and baked chicken!

What is your family's favorite dinner? I make a killer spaghetti sauce. Funny enough I was just goggling recipes years ago and came across it. It looked easy and yummy. Nothing fancy...just your basic ingredients. Michael told me it was better than his mom's!! And that is a HUGE compliment. We love, love, love Mexican food. When we eat out it is usually to a Mexican restaurant or some place that has steaks. We can't pass up a good steak!

Do you have a fast and easy recipe that you use frequently? I make something called Shrimp Pontchartrain. Everything is done in the microwave. It is probably the BEST thing I've ever eaten and takes less than 15 minutes to make. Here is the recipe. If you try it you have to tell me how you like it.

2 lbs. peeled shrimp
1 tsp. creole seasoning
½ c. margarine
6 fresh mushrooms sliced
1 tsp. salt
¼ tsp. white pepper
1 c. green onions
¼ c. flour
½ c. shrimp stock
½ c. half & half (warm 30 sec.)
¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
pastry shells (I've always used Pillsbury Puff Pastry Sheets. While the microwave is going with the shrimp and spices I cut these up and bake them. I saw the same brand but the Pastry Shells at a local grocery store here in Central. Beware, you will want to eat these before the Shrimp is ready!!)

Place shrimp in a large 1 1/2 quart dish. Sprinkle with creole seasoning. Cover. Microwave on high 5 min., stirring once. Drain but reserve ½ c. shrimp stock. Set shrimp aside covered. In a 2 quart dish, melt margarine on high for 1 min. Add green onions and mushrooms. Sauté on high 3 min. Stir in flour. Slowly add shrimp, stock, cream, salt and peppers. Microwave on high 4 min., stirring twice. Place mixture in pastry shells and serve.

What kind of snack and drinks do you keep on hand for the kids? I keep fruit snacks or gummies, fresh fruit (they eat it so fast it usually doesn't last long in my house!), baked chips, pretzels, peanut butter crackers and Haley would cause a riot if I didn't have cheese in the refrigerator. Michael always picks on her and says she is a mouse, not a human!

How do you break up the house work? When do you get it done? I pretty much do housework every single day. There is always something to be done and I try to keep things picked up and in order so that it doesn't get out of control. I never have a day of cleaning simply because I don't have a single day to devote to it. We are just too busy. I do a little every day but it all gets done within the week.

Do you have any tips for getting it done faster/easier? I try to do at least one load of laundry each day so that I stay on top of things.

Do you guys have a bedtime routine? I would love to say we do but that wouldn't be completely true. Again, it's baseball season so we are practically at the park every night of the week which means as soon as we hit the back door each kids gets a bathroom to bathe. We do have a nightly tucking in ritual for each one of them. Unfortunately I wish I had more time.

What is a typical day like for you all? I mean a break down time wise. When to rise, when to bed, and other typical daily functions. I am blessed with a job that allows me to have flex time and a wonderful husband that agreed to help me out! I know this sounds crazy but I don't see the kids in the morning. They do call me every morning and I talk to each one for several minutes. I leave for work around 5:50-6:00 am. I work from 6:30 - 3:00. This allows me to be home when the bus drops the kids off. Growing up my mom stayed home and the best thing was walking into the house and smelling supper cooking! I wanted that for my kids. Unfortunately I have to work but by having flex time I can do both. Michael gets the kids up in the morning and gets them dressed and ready for school. He became a master at ponytails and bows overnight! When I get home, if I have time I will start supper, if not I'll put a load of clothes on while waiting for the kids. When they get home we get homework done. Then lately we get dressed for either baseball practice, baseball games or dance! When we get home it's bath and bedtime.

What kind of staples do you keep stocked in your kitchen? I keep the same staples as most anyone.....sugar, flour, milk, bread, eggs, etc. I also keep all the snacks mentioned above stocked in my pantry. I bring a bag of goodies to the ballpark b/c I would need a second job to support my kids concession stand habits! I always have Power Aid around too for the kids and ball.

How often do you go to the grocery store? Once a week and sometimes more if we run out of certain items.

Do you have a special day for running errands or is it just when you need to? When I need to.

Do you and Michael share any of the household responsibilities? I recently gave Michael a summer worth of lawn service!! So he has no excuse to not help me! No, seriously, Michael has always been the best clothes folder. He will also wash a load every now and then but he's only allowed to wash towels or white clothes. He will also help me out in the kitchen when we have time. However, all this was learned after we got married!! Michael never had to lift a finger around his parents house. His mom did EVERYTHING! That's why I'm teaching Justin now how to clean his room and keep it clean!! I don't want Justin's future wife to blame me for his laziness!

What's your best organization tip? Keep post-it notes or paper in every room and when you remember something you need at the store write it down!! This saves you from having to make a million trips to the store!

What is your favorite cleaner(s)? I love Odoban and some cheap purple cleaner I get from Wal-mart that smells so good!!

How far in advance do you start planning birthday parties? Because both of my kids have birthdays in February I have to get through Christmas first. So I usually start thinking about their parties after the first of the year. I told Justin this was probably his last "party." He can have friends over to the house next year!

How do you keep track of all of your events/to do? Big white eraser board on the fridge.

I am now tagging everyone that reads this post.

Halloween in April

Not really but one of the dances Haley's dance class will be doing for recital is to the song Calendar Girl. Hundreds of motorcycles escorted the truck that carried the wall. It passed down Wax Rd. which is the main street our neighborhood is on. So lots of people lined Wax Rd. as the motorcade came through. It was awesome. Here are a few pictures of that day.

The Demco employees wanted a bird's eye view!!

Justin made a poster sign to show as we waved!

Part of the motorcade

The actual wall set up at Zoar Baptist Church

November was a very special month for Justin. He got to go to his first Saints game!! And even better I got to take him! Michael had to go out of town for work so Justin and I headed to New Orleans for the game. Anyone who knows my son knows that he LOVES LSU football and The Saints! Reggie Bush is his favorite player. He was starstruck! We had AWESOME seats too. I got the tickets as a trade deal with some LSU tickets. Here are just a couple from the game. I seriously took over 100! I want him to be able to look back and remember his first NFL game.

The team warming up

I used my zoom but we were still very close and could see everything!

We stayed to the VERY end b/c we were right over the tunnel that the player leave from. The player throw up to the fans their wristbands, gloves, etc as they leave. We tried so hard to catch something but didn't.

Here's the last pic we took in the Dome. Notice there is no one left. The lights were literally being turned off and we were still in there. All Justin could say was "This was the BEST day of my life!"

Thanksgiving was very nice. Michael's parents were in the process of moving the the camp in Osyka, Mississippi. They remodeled the house that Michael's grandmother lived in. The house once served as Michael's hunting camp. About 2 years ago Michael and a friend of his built another camp on the property. His dad clear cut some of the land and dug a large pond. His parents bought a travel trailer and pretty much spent any free time they had up there. They started to let the old house go but found someone around town that was remodeling another old home. Doc stopped and talked to him and long story short about a year or so later they now are living there. How cool is that! It turned out very nice. I'll post some pictures later. They officially sold their house in Baker and now they are residents of the big town of Osyka, MS. So that is where we spent Thanksgiving there.

Christmas was very nice also. The kids are getting harder to buy for but we managed! We kept busy with our running around to each of the families. My uncle and his wife came in from Charleston, SC and we did Christmas with them after christmas! It was very hard this year without Maw-maw Vivian. She passed away in September. It just wasn't the same without her. We had Christmas with my mom's side of the family back at my grandparents house. This was the first year we had it there since my other grandmother (mom's mom) passed away. She had always said as long as she was alive she wanted Christmas at her house. Well 15 grandkids and 20+ great grandkids later that was getting hard. So after she passed away two years ago we moved Christmas to my aunt's house. This year Paw Paw requested it be celebrated back at their home. He still has a hard time missing her. He said that is what she would have wanted. So did it...all 35 or so of us did as Paw Paw requested. It was the first time in YEARS, and I mean YEARS that all his grandkids were there together. We took a group photo with him. Seriously, this was a rare moment. We usually come and go through-out the day but hardly are ever there all at the same time. Heck, we don't all live in Louisiana!

Not all the great-grand kids were there. Some were with their other parent (divorce situations). Here are most of them. It was like herding cats to get this picture!

Here was our Christmas card picture. I love this picture. You can't even tell Haley was very mad because she had to knell down with her white tights on. She didn't want to get them dirty. I kid you not she was pouting and carrying on ONE SECOND before I snapped this picture and immediately after it too. It's amazing what you can capture in less than a second!

January was a quiet month. Haley's Pre-K class had snow day. They hired a company that comes in and "makes" snow for you! We always to a parade in a suburb of Baton Rouge. It's a great parade.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_GvDXkznCG8U/SAi963vg_JI/AAAAAAAAAD8/kGB2jQ6azV8/s400/IMGP3747.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5190607389637803154" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_GvDXkznCG8U/SAi9t3vg_II/AAAAAAAAAD0/JpcOKVY07No/s400/IMGP3745.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5190607166299503746" />

February is always a c-r-a-z-y month for us. Michael, Justin, Haley, my brother-in-law, sister-in-law and nephew all have birthdays. It also is me and Michael's anniversary month plus Valentine's day in thrown in there too. Needless to say it's just a little crazy. All went well and I was glad when March arrived!

Easter was early this year so our annual family reunion on my mom's side was March 15th this year. It's always good to see everyone. My grandfather still misses my grandmother so much. He broke down a few times but all in all it was a very nice day. They were married for over 60 years. She has been gone for a few years now and he still gets upset easily when he thinks of her. Such a wonderful love.

Justin had a school project that is an annual event at school. It's an egg drop. Each child has to package an egg in something so that when it drops from the second floor of the school it won't break. Michael and Justin came up with some type of rocket thing-a-ma-bob! It worked and it didn't crack. He was so proud!!

And that leads us up to April. Besides being crazy busy because of baseball nothing else is really going on. Haley started t-ball this year so we have two playing. Plus my nephew, who I consider my own, plays too, so technically three playing. Thankfully they all play at the same park. We have a few scheduling conflicts with game times but all in all it isn't that bad. Also, they play on fields that are close to each other so that's very helpful.

Here is Haley and her best friend Sadie.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GvDXkznCG8U/SAjBlHvg_KI/AAAAAAAAAEE/5OrFIczcxOw/s400/t-ball.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5190611414022159522" />

Justin is playing in lots of tournaments on the weekends. I LOVE baseball season. I could spend EVERY weekend at the park. I can't explain it. I'm so glad Justin likes it because I would be very sad if I couldn't watch him play and hang out at the ball park all the time!

We have a tournament this weekend and we'll be heading to Gulfport, MS next weekend for a ball tournament, so I'll have some pics to share with y'all soon.

I'm going to really try to be better about updating too!!

marcy

Going, going, GONE

I finally did it. They won 16 to 6. It amazes me each time I see him that this is my child. It's so funny...as we leave the house I telling him to pick up his toys, turn the lights off, leave your sister alone, etc! But then I see him on the football field and he seems so old to me...like a mini-adult. It's hard to explain. Although I love these pictures they are a little sad to me too. I wish I had the ability to freeze time!

From a Wildcat to a Hornet

That’s right! In the spirit of never stopping we are into football season now. We are officially year round sportsters! Baseball, football, basketball, then baseball starts up again. I love it and wouldn't have it any other way. I will have to find a way to become two people at one time next summer when Haley starts to play t-ball!

Saturday was a scrimmage game for Justin's team. This year he is playing for school. Last year he played for the Central area. He's excited to be playing for his school this year because more of his friends are on his team. He plays center this year. For those of you, like me, who don't really know all the positions in football, that's the player that snaps the ball to the quarterback. They did well Saturday but ended up losing 8 - 0. The team they played didn't play in the same league as our team so their rules were slightly different. Some of their "legal" plays were "illegal" plays in our rule book so our boys weren't expecting that. All in all they did very well.

Here's Michael trying to tuck Justin's jersey into his pants. I'm not sure why they thought the shirts would stay tucked in, but it looked good to start off!

Justin and his teammates warming up. Just seeing him in his uniform looking so much older makes me a little sad.

Dove season

Labor day weekend marked the opening of Dove season for Mississippi. We have a camp in MS and Justin just so happen to have a friend stay with us over the labor day weekend. I wasn't going to go because this is when my grandmother had taken a turn for the worse. But I did decide to go in the end and took a few pictures. The kids LOVE going to the camp.

Check out the pictures at my shutterfly site:

http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8MZt2blo2Yg0

15 days

15 days ago my sweet, loving grandmother passed away. It was and still is hard to believe that she is gone. Sometimes I don't belive that it really happened. For so long, I could always brag about the fact that I had 4 grandparents. Then my grandfather passed away about 7 years ago. Then two years ago my other grandmother died. And now, 2 weeks ago my other grandmother passed on. It makes me think just how "old" I'm getting. Somewhere in the back of my mind I think that time is standing still. It becomes very evident how wrong I am when I see family that I haven't seen in years tell my dad, "that can't be your baby!" Or, dad telling someone, "This is Marcy" and the other person staring at me in disbelief that I have grown up! After going through an emotional last few months with my grandmother and an even more emotional last two weeks I have come to the conclusion that growing old sucks and I would love to find the ability to stop time in its tracts!

Here is a picture of my maw maw Vivian with her children on one of the happiest days in her life...her 80th birthday party! This was just two years ago. She talked about this party for the last 2 years. She had asked my dad (the one in the striped shirt) if they would put together a party so she could visit with all her friend and have a good time. Well we put on one heck of a party for her!!! My grandmother LOVED to dance and this was one of the last times she was able to dance. Not long after this she started to having health issues. She was such a beautiful person inside and out.

Say it isn't so....

Those of you who know me, know that I used to have NATURAL blonde highlights. Then I made a horrible decision to cut all my hair off leaving dark brown hair. That is when I started chemically highlighting it. Then hurricane Katrina hit and Baton Rouge traffic was insane and getting to my hair salon clear across town was nearly impossible. So I haven't highlighted my hair in almost four years resulting in my hair growing out to my natural color which is dark brown. A far cry from my light brown/dirty blonde hair I had years ago. Recently I started to see lighter hair coming through. My first thought was there was no way it was gray hair! Heck, I'm only 34!! My blonde highlights must be coming back! I've continued to see these "light" colored hairs coming out and continued my denial of the dreaded gray hair.

Well, I'm at work now talking to a co-worker and my boss. As I am talking to both of them my boss walks up to me and is inspecting my head! I thought I had something in my hair. Then he gets this satisfying grin on his face, calls my co-worker over and they both take great pleasure in telling me I have gray hair! What!!! No natural blonde highlights coming through??!!??

Guess I'll be making a call to my hair stylist soon!

Two down, 100+ left to go

Well both kids have loved the first two days of school. I was a little worried about Haley since she is only 4 and going to pre-school at such a big school. She marched right in there like she knew what to do! It helps a lot that she already knew her teacher. Justin LOVES school once again this year because he was assigned the teacher he really wanted. So as of right now, life in the Stevens' house is good. Homework hasn't kicked in yet so next week might be a different story. Also, football practice starts next week. Yikes! Carpool, homework, practice, dinner... I'm tired just thinking about it already.

Have a great day!

Almost a year has gone by.....

I can't believe it but it's almost one year since I posted my last blog entry. So much has happened! I've actually become a little addicted to several peoples blogs so I thought it was time to start mine back up. We've had an eventful year. I'll fill you in on the highlights.

Justin played football for Central last year. Central has a youth league that he was able to play in last year. He loved it and did awesome. He was a 7yr old on a 7-8 yr old team. For those of you who know Justin will understand how and why he started and played almost every game. Let's just say "small" is NOT a word to describe Justin.

As always Michael and Justin went to the hunting camp every chance possible to do a little hunting. I don't recall the exact number but Justin and Michael did get several deer last season. Justin absolutely loves going to the camp. Michael's parents are remodeling the old house on the property and will be moving there permanently in the next few months. Of course Haley and I stayed back and did our favorite past time of shopping!

In the midst of all of that my dad had hip replacement surgery in November. Dad had pretty much gotten to the point where he could hardly walk. In fact, the beach trip we took in 2006 (see entry below) he didn't get out of the condo. It was too painful for him to even walk to the beach. But his surgery was a success! In more ways than one! After his hip replacement surgery his recovery went so well and he and mom (both recently retired) started walking. He would get a little short winded but thought "hey, I'm 60+ years old and a little out of shape!" Well, while investigating a shoulder injury (which turned out to be OK) they found a spot on his liver (which thankfully turned out to be nothing). While doing a second scan to look a the spot on the liver, the radiologist wrote "right artery calcification" on his report. So on April 27th dad had a heart cath done and we found out that he had 100% blockage in one artery and 60% in another! Three day later he had double bypass surgery. God works in wonderful, mysterious ways. If it wouldn't have been for a sore shoulder who knows what could have happened. Today, dad is a NEW man. Walks great (due to the new hip!) and has clear arteries! This year's beach trip was so incredibly different from last. What a difference a year can make. He and mom got back to renting beach loungers and enjoying the kids. We even sent him back to the condo a few times for forgotten things. New hip, fixed heart, new outlook on life!!

This year we had an AWESOME baseball year! Our team changed names to the Tornados and we were undefeated in our league. We went to several out of town tournaments and did well in those too. I love, love, love baseball season. I wish that baseball was year round. We have a great bunch of kids and all the parents get along so well. We've become good friend with Justin's head coach of his team. They have a two sons and one daughter. The oldest son, Jude, is Justin's age and their daughter Sadie is Haley's age. The son in the middle, Kaleb, isn't forgotten!! He fits right in with the boys! Haley and Sadie are best friends and light up when they see each other. They are great people and I enjoy spending time with them.

Here is a pic of Haley and Sadie with their eye black on. Too cute! Look how funny their coloring is! Haley is so fair skinned and Sadie has a natural olive skin that tans so easy.

A friend of mine took this pic of Haley at the ball park. I LOVE it!

Justin had two religious mild stones. He had first reconciliation and first Eucharist this year. I was so proud of him. He was nervous beyond belief but my little man did so well. Here is a picture of him looking so handsome!

I also had the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. for work. I have always wanted to see D.C. Although we only had half of a day to tour, my friend and co-worker Cathy saw all that we could, including the President coming back home in a helicopter. It was the day that he went to the memorial service at Virginia Tech. He just happened to fly back home when we were at the white house. Here is a pic of me in front the white house.

We recently came back from our annual family beach trip. We also took family pictures while we were there. My boss and his family had this done and I've always wanted to do it with the whole family. Two years ago I took some of the kids on the beach in Biloxi and they came out so good. I wanted some more but I wanted everyone. So I had orders for everyone to bring a white shirt with either denim or khaki shorts. They weren't exactly what I was hoping for but I think the time we went out and my camera was the problem. Next year we may look into getting the person my boss used. Clickhere to see the family pics.

Well that brings us up to today. Today was the first day of school. Haley started Pre-K at Justin's school and Justin is in the 3rd grade. Both looked so cute in their uniforms. It was a sad day for me to see my baby girl go to "big girl" school. I would post pictures but I don't want some crazy person to see the school name off their uniform in the picture and stalk them! Just know that she looked SUPER cute and Justin was SUPER handsome.

Until next time... take care...

Marcy

Recent pictures

I have had some requests to post some recent pics of Justin and Haley. What can I say, I've been busy. Justin played in a summer baseball league 3 nights a week for four weeks. Not so bad if it was around our house but every game was out at Drillers Diamonds. For those of you who don't know, we are not exactly close to Drillers Diamond. It's a 40-45 minute drive from our house. So depending on the time of the game I would either stay at work (5 minutes from the park) or go home only to turn around and head back toward LSU. I'm really not complaining, really I'm not. I LOVE watching Justin and his team play baseball. I would love it more if it was closer to home! For four weeks straight we were never home.... NEVER! The week that baseball ended football started. That is much better. We can practically walk to practice! Justin is loving it. He is turning out to be a pretty good football player too. He is only 7 (on a 7-8 year old team) and he is starting left tackle. He plays pretty much the whole game which is good b/c I wouldn't like to be out there to watch him sit the bench! Justin is in 2nd grade this year and he is doing fantastic! Mostly A's with a B mixed in every now and then. He's been getting B's in conduct. When I asked him why is he getting a B every week he looks at me and honestly tells me he talks!! Imagine that! I wonder who he gets that from??!!??

Haley is.... well.. Haley!! She continues to keep us laughing with her little prissy self! Oh the stories I have! There isn't enough space on this blog to go into detail. She truly keeps us laughing ALL the time! A couple of weeks ago she was singing a little song they sing at preschool before meals. It ends with her singing aaaameeen, aaaameeeen execpt she thought it was aaawww man, aaawww man!! I almost had to pull the car over when I heard her singing that! She didn't understand why I was laughing. Aww, man!

A few weekends ago I decided to take her out to LSU to tailgate. Justin has pretty much taken my season ticket so he and Michael go to the games. This particular Saturday Haley and I went out there. On the way we crossed over a bridge and so it began. Here was the dialogue. Keep in mind our biggest challenge with her is she always has to get the last word in!!

Haley: Was that a bridge?
Me: Where?
Haley: Back there?
Me: Oh, yeah. It sure was. Good watching Haley. Where did you learn about bridges?
Haley: At my school. Ms. Anita taught me.

Fast forward about 10 minutes to me getting on the interstate….

Haley: Mommy, are we on a bridge again?
Me: No, baby. This is an interstate.
Haley: No its not. It’s a bridge.
Me: No, Haley. A bridge is over water. An interstate is a raised road over other roads, houses, trees and sometimes water.
Haley: No its not. It’s a bridge.

Ok at this point I do understand that maybe in her mind yes, we were on a bridge but I wanted her to understand the difference so the battle of the wills go on.

Me: (In my stern voice)… Haley, I’m not going to sit here and argue with you. We are on the interstate, not a bridge. When you ask me a question and I give you an answer, don’t talk back. We are on the interstate!

OK, so now there is quiet. Did I just win?? Oh my gosh, it’s been five seconds… I think I’ve won.

A little voice in the back pipes in and softly states, “It’s a bridge”

Then two weeks ago after church I had to stop at Wal-mart on my way home. My sister and her family were there and they had to go too so Justin jumped in the car with them and Haley and I went in my van. As I was getting Haley in the van she asked to hold Justin’s football that was in the van. It is a purple and gold football with a shiny coating. Last year when Michael and Justin were throwing it to each other at the camp, it rolled on the edge of the bonfire and just very slightly melted the shiny coat on one small part and burnt the tip of it. So the tip has a little black spot on it. Again, remember Haley “I’m getting the last word” Stevens is with me!! As we are driving it all begins.

Haley: Ewwww, this has dirt on it!
Me: No, baby, that’s not dirt. It’s just burnt.
Haley: No it’s not. It’s dirt.
Me: No Haley. It’s not dirt. It’s burnt from the fire at the camp. Bubba accidentally threw it by the fire and it burnt the tip of it.
Haley: Well, it looks like dirt.
Me: I know it does but it’s NOT dirt. It won’t come off if you rub it. When something burns it turns black.
Haley: But it looks like dirt.Me: (in a stern voice!) HALEY! It is NOT dirt, it’s burnt. (repeating myself like I always have to do!!) When you ask me a question or tell me something and I give you an answer please don’t talk back!

Here’s the kicker….

Haley: Well, burnt turns into dirt so it’s dirt on Bubba’s football!!!!!

At this point I wanted to sell her to the highest bidder!

As you can tell there really isn't a slow, dull or boring moment in me and Michael's lives these days. But you know what... I wouldn't trade it for anything!!

Marcy

Hello again

It seems as though once a month is my average update these days. I hoped to post more but we have just been so busy.

Two weeks ago we took a vacation to Disneyworld. We had a wonderful time. The best part is seeing how much fun the kids had, espicially Haley. We had taken Justin four years ago and he still remembered a good bit of everything. He got to ride all the roller coaster this time and loved every minute of it. I even got brave this year and rode the roller coasters. That is a big thing for me. Until this trip I was very afraid. By the end of the trip I was begging Justin to ride with me "one more time!!" The best part was seeing the sheer excitement on Haley's face everytime she saw a character. She loved all the rides and shows. Her favorite was riding "Gumbo!!" HA HA! Dumbo, Gumbo... it's all the same right! That's my Louisiana girl! You can view a sampling of our pictures here. Notice I said sampling and also notice there are 207 pictures. I took a total of 543 pictures!!!

Haley is enjoying dance class so much. She gets so excited on Wednesday's when I tell her it's "dance day." She also did excellent with her swimming lessons. By the end of our vacation she was jumping off the side of the pool and swimming to us on her own. That's a big deal b/c last summer she was holding onto us in the pool for dear life! We have a trip to the beach scheduled for Aug. 2-6 so she'll be able to show off for her Nannie and maw-maw and paw-paw too.

Justin just ended spring baseball and we will be starting a summer league in the next week or so. Then at the tailend of summber baseball, football will start. So as you can tell we will stay very busy.

As always I will try to post again soon.

It's been a long time...

We have been insanely busy over the last month and a half! Mostly with Justin and his baseball games. They started doing more tournaments this year so we are not only practicing during the week and having games we are also going out of town to tournaments on weekends. We've gone to Gulfport, MS and last weekend we were in the big town of Gonzales. Our boys are doing super in regular season play but not so good in tournaments. When you go to these tournament you usually play All-star teams. We're not quite there yet but we are well on our way. Justin made an AWESOME play this past weekend. He's the catcher and the tying run was up to bat. The kid hit the ball. We over threw first base. The runner rounded second and was on his way to third. We overthrew third base (are you getting the picture here!) and the runner started for home. Ball was thrown to Justin, he caught it and it was a picture perfect play.... he tagged him as he slide into home and got him out! I was so excited! These boys are all 6-7 and are really playing hard. Next year will be our year to play! We're getting lots of practice this year!

I've signed Haley up for dance classes this summer. I can't wait to see her. She is always "dancing on her tippy toe" around the house and wearing her ballerina dress so I've decided to put her in some classes. We'll see how it goes. When I went to register her, the teacher, Ms. Carrie showed her a few basic moves and that child has been doing them around the house ALL the time. It's so cute. I hope she'll do well in it. She also starts swimming lessons next Monday. That will be interesting! Last summer when we went to Biloxi she LOVED the beach but wasn't wild about the pool. I'm hoping this will loosen her up a little. The day after her last day of lessons we leave for Disneyworld!!

So ball, ball and more ball is what we have been up to. Mix a little vacation planning to Disneyworld in with that and that is about how the Stevens' life has been going.

I'll leave you with a funny story. Sunday afternoon, like we weren't tired enough from playing ball all weekend, we decided to take the kids to see Over the Hedge. VERY cute. This was Haley's first movie at the theater. As she is walking in, carefully holding her kid's pack of popcorn and drink she looks up and says with astonishment, "WOW, this looks like the Jesus house!" That has had me laughing for two days now.

Look closely at Haley's hair! Justin had two games and they won both. Haley was sent to the principle today. Yes folks, you read correctly. My THREE year old got sent to the office. So needless to say I'm not in such a great mood tonight. Her teacher says that she doesn't sit still. Nooo... not my daughter! Anyhow, not exactly sure how I'm going to fix that problem but we'll work on it. Thankfully my kids decide to get in trouble at different times. Justin has had good conduct for an entire month.

Haven't taken any pictures in the last few days. Here's one of Justin holding the turkey Michael shot last weekend. Lots of friends showed up and we all had a good time. We had it at Lovett Road Park and we also had a spacewalk. Funny story.... we had the spacewalk running off of a generator. When some of the kids were jumping, Haley included, the generator ran out of gas. The jumper started to deflate. In my not-so-calm voice I told Joy to "GET THE KIDS OUT!!" Which in turn gave my daughter her first heart attack. I was instructed I could never be a teacher by Joy who is one of the best kindergarten teachers in the world! I guess I got a little too dramatic. So I'll add that to my "what I should never be" list right under videographer. As of now Haley won't step foot in a spacewalk.

Here are some pictures of the party. Justin woke up still having a sore throat (from the tube in his throat from yesterday's procedure). They told us that was going to happen. He also ran a very low grade fever last night so I decided I'd let him rest one more day. I decided to bring Haley to daycare just so I could get some stuff done around the house while I was off. Justin and I had to stop by the store on the way home and if I had a dime for every time someone looked at me funny I'd be one rich girl this morning. I guess since Justin was in sweats and a t-shirt (not a uniform) and we were in walmart after school had started everyone looked at me like "why isn't he at school!" I just got my groceries and went on with my business but boy did I get some looks.

What a day

Well Justin did so well today. We don't know everything just yet. We have to wait for the lab results but the doctor did see something unusual with Justin lungs. Justin has bumps (there is a medical term for this but I didn't catch it) in his airway and lungs. This is caused from his immune system over compensating. We've known the Justin's immune system in the upper respiratory area wasn't good. Anyway, I'm not real sure I understand it all but basically these bumps are caused by some irritant and his immune system is working overtime to compensate for the lack of immunity in his upper respitory area. The irritants could just be his asthma or it could be acid reflux. The doctor will know more when the lab results come in. Regardless of what the outcome is his meds will have to be adjusted. Hopefully by next week he will be on the right track.

Michael and Justin playing the Gameboy waiting to go to the OR.

All done! I was so very proud of him for volunteering. I even found out that his homeroom teacher had so many volunteers she had try-outs to see who could say it the most clearly and loudly. Justin passed the try-outs and this morning was the big day. I have this cool digital camera that can also record video. Maybe I should have practiced using the movie mode as much as Justin practiced the Pledge last night! It didn't end on such a great note. Yesterday, the last day of the conference, a friend and co-worker thought she was having a heart attack so me, and two others spent the afternoon in the emergency room with her. THANKFULLY she is fine. It wasn't a heart attack. All test came back fine so she will follow up with her physican once she is home. Then today we "TRIED" to land in Baton Rouge twice but the wind was too bad. We literally almost touched down and we had to go back up twice. Mixed in with all the turbulance my friend and co-worker (not the one who thought she was having a heart attack) was about 5 seconds from using the handy dandy barf bag. She was able to make it to the lavatory!! Poor thing. We were rerouted to New Orleans and Cathy's husband Troy came and got us. So I am completely exhusted and missed the kids terribly. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday! Here are a few pics from the Opryland Hotel. However... umm....isn't there a little pot calling the kettle black action going on!! You haven't exactly been Mr. Blogger lately. But I promise I will try harder to post more often!

With that being said, we have been incredibly busy the last several weeks so I haven't updated lately. Today (Feb. 27) is Haley's 3rd birthday and Feb. 17th was Justin's 7th birthday! I can't believe they are growing up so fast. We've celebrated Mardi Gras by going to a couple of parades. Justin's party was this past weekend and because I have to go out of town and then Justin has a ball tournament we will have Haley's party mid-March. Poor thing! But I guess it's better late than never. We are going to celebrate tonight and she'll get her main presents tonight. We also will be putting up her big girl bed. Yes, she is three and was still in her babybed. She loved her bed and was very content in it. It was my way of holding onto my baby just a little bit more. However, no more! She is on to bigger and better things. She is very quick to tell you she is not a baby anymore. And so it begins....!

I'll be updating more now that crazy February is over.

BTW, here are all my February shout-outs

Feb. 8th - Happy 9th anniversary Michael. I love you.
Feb. 12th - Happy Birthday Michael.
Feb. 13th - Happy Birthday Jaxon.
Feb. 16th - Happy Birthday Rodney.
Feb. 16th - Happy Birthday David.
Feb. 17th - Happy Birthday Justin.
Feb. 19th - Happy Birthday Carla.
Feb. 27th - Happy Birthday Haley.
Feb. ?? - Happy Birthday Alexa. Sorry I'm not sure the exact date but I didn't want to leave you off!!

Now you understand why my February is crazy!

I will post pictures tonight. That's what I had to do today and I'm here to tell you it wasn't fun! My right eye has been tearing up since Saturday. I went to see my eye doctor today and right there in the office I had to have my tear duct irrigated. Here is an explanation of the procedure from a web site: "This non-painful test is completed by placing a small, blunt irrigating syringe just inside the initial opening of the tear duct, and irrigating fluid (water or saline) through the tear drainage system." OK, first I wouldn't exactly call thin NON-PAINFUL. Think of a little needle being placed in your tear duct then shooting saline through your tear duct until it's draining in the back of your throat and you start to gag. That's about how it went! I'm sure you are all laughing at this image in your head! The bad part is it didn't help my problem. My eye is still tearing up and watering so now I may have to have a Dacryocystorhinostomy or DCR. We saw Hoodwinked. Very cute flick. Not sure what genius thought of putting ONE exit at the Rave movie theater but if you are out there reading this ... BIG MISTAKE! It took us 30 minutes to get out of Rave's parking lot. After getting home they boys played a little basketball outside. Justin hadn't been outside in over a week b/c he has been sick so this was definitely a welcomed treat. Here are some action shots.

This is Collin trying to kill a spider on the back of the goal post. Our neighbors have three kittens. They are a little shy and wouldn't come to the boys easily to be petted. Collin and Justin proceeded to go inside, get some construction paper and draw a mouse and a piece of cheese. They then taped a quarter to the mouse as a weight then taped a piece of yellow yarn to it. They went to the fence and threw it over so it would be in Cindy's yard. And what do you know the kitten came right to it. It was very funny. Here are just a couple of pics to show off their project.

Slacker

I've been called a slacker b/c I haven't posted in several days but I had a good excuse. Justin was sick and I was home with him all week. I should have had plenty of time to post but there was really nothing to report except Justin ended up having pneumonia and had to go to Lake After Hours. All in all not such a great week. Yesterday cabin fever was eating away at me so while Justin and Michael went to the LSU basketball game, Haley and I went to my sisters to visit. It wasn't long before we ended up at the Lonibus' (ha ha) house and gave Easton and Haley the opportunity to have their first date. If you are wondering Haley is almost 3 and Easton just made 2. Yes, she is robbing the cradle (literally) but Easton comes from a good family so we don't mind so much! I should have pictures of the momentous event soon and will post them when I can. Until then have a nice MLK day and rest of the week!

Sick kids

Poor Justin. He's under the weather today with fever and cold symptoms. I was hoping this Baton Rouge cold that is going around would have missed him but we weren't so lucky. Haley and I had it over the holidays and now Justin has it. The thing about Justin is with his asthma and allergy history his colds are always 10x worse than anyone else's. So he's been lounging around watching movies and playing a little bit of his gamecube. Got a doctor appt. for him in the morning. Got up and Haley and I went to church while the boys were still at the camp in Mississippi. Went have lunch with my family and caught Collin's late afternoon basketball game. Nothing exciting or adventurous today. Pretty boring update. I do have to give myself a big pat on the back. You see Michael and I (along with my sister and bro-in-law) are on weight watchers. Temptation was all around this weekend from Victoria's Beinet Cafe' to ballgame snack counter junk and rounding it out with it being donut day at church. I was around every one of these temptations and did not give in ONCE! Yeah me!
